Jackson's Kennel's Deposit and Refund Policy

Jackson's Kennel has a strict nonrefundable deposit policy. Deposits are a security deposit and a commitment to purchase. Should the requested sex/color not be available the deposit will be transferred to any unreserved puppy or to a future litter. Jackson's Kennel cannot guarantee a puppy will be available nor a litter will be born. Should the buyer decide to cancel their purchase the deposit is forfeited. Once a puppy is assigned/picked it can not be changed unless there are available unreserved puppies. If you decide a puppy from the reserved litter doesn't suit your wants or you cannot commit to a puppy at that time your deposit is transferable to any available litters for up to 2 years. If a puppy isn't selected within 2 years the deposit is forfeited.
Deposits are not refundable if:
  • The buyer changes their mind/backs out of purchasing
  • The buyer finds another breeder
  • The buyer finds a cheaper dog
  • The buyer's life circumstances change
  • The buyer has an emergency
  • A pet allergy
  • A buyer's financial/job situation changes
  • The requested color/sex isn't available
  • A missed pregnancy, miscarriage, reabsorbed litter, premature birth, ect.
  • The breeder terminates the buyer-breeder relationship due to the buyer's behavior, attitude, and/or actions

Deposits may be refundable if:
  • The litter is deemed unfit for sale
  • The breeder decides to refund case by case
  • The reserved puppy is unfit for sale or passes away
  • The breeder decides to retain the reserved puppy for their own program
Once a dog has left Jackson's Kennel it is property of the buyer. We do not offer refunds if the buyer decides they want to return the dog without a valid medical reason as accepted under the health guarantee. It is highly advised to consider the implications a new puppy or dog will have on all aspects of your life prior to purchasing it. We do not refund for buyer's remorse or for being unhappy with the puppy or dog. It's advised to ensure you're not allergic to dogs, dander, and that all household members are ready for a new dog before placing a deposit.

In the event a Jackson's Kennel puppy/dog is in need of being rehomed the puppy/dog is to be returned to the breeder. There is no refund or reimbursement given for returned dogs. It is required in our contract that if you're looking to rehome your dog they are to come back to us, or if we can't commit to the dog's needs/have the available resources for it we will help you find a new home for your dog.  Should the buyer be displeased with their puppy Jackson's Kennel but unwilling to return it to the breeder we may be able to assist in finding a new suitable home for it.

Purchase Process

All those interested in a puppy or dog must complete the questionnaire. If approved the next step is the deposit. A deposit is required to secure a puppy or dog. No puppy/dog will be held without one. Due to the amount of scams and window shoppers there is no grace period in getting your deposit it. Deposits are FCFS. Once your puppy has been born you will be updated weekly via email with pictures. You will only be contacted via your preferred contact method if there is a specific question or concern the breeder has regarding your puppy or the litter. A second payment of $500 is due at 6 weeks old and is applied towards the total balance. The remainder is due before the dog is scheduled for transportation (flight nanny, cargo or ground transport) or at pick-up if picking-up in person. Home visits are limited due to the risk of viral and disease exposure to young puppies especially prior to their 7-10 day immunity period after their first vaccination. Virtual visits are encouraged and welcomed.

Additional costs: Please note transportation/shipping is an additional cost and not included in the purchase price. Any additional vetting required is also an additional fee and not included in the original purchase price (example: rabies prep for shipping to a rabies free country). Housing, kenneling, vetting, and feeding costs will be added for dogs that must stay longer and are not sent home by their pick-up dates, this includes the duration necessary for animals needing to be quarantined prior to be shipped. For more information please contact Jackson's Kennel. *We are NOT a boarding facility.*

Selecting Your Puppy

You may select your own puppy or have the breeder assign a puppy based on temperament testing. Puppies are assigned/selected starting at 5 weeks old for most litters but may be as late as 6 weeks old. Pick of the litter keeper, if there is one, will be selected between 5-6 weeks old. Those who want the breeder to assign their puppy to them will be assigned puppies next. Lastly, those who want to select their puppy will choose from the unassigned puppies. Breeder assigned puppies have priority as their families are looking for a very specific trait or temperament, usually for a working, sport, or competition dog. Once a puppy is assigned/picked it can not be changed. If you decide a puppy from the reserved litter doesn't suit your wants your deposit is transferable to any available litters for up to 2 years. If a puppy isn't selected within 2 years the deposit is forfeited. Puppies must be picked up by 10 weeks old otherwise they're subject to a daily $20 fee or $100 flat weekly fee.

Important Requirements for Health Guarantee

Crate Training: Doberman as a breed are high energy and need a lot of stimulation, exercise, and engagement. They are prone to destructive boredom and chewing. It is highly advised to crate train your dog; for its safety and for your home's safety. The leading reason for surgery in young dogs is accidental ingestion/bowel obstruction. It is required by the health guarantee for puppies to be crate trained and to be crated until fully house-broke (around 1-2 years old, but in some dogs much sooner). Crate training provides a safe space for your dog should it need it (after surgery, down for recovery, boarding at a clinic, emergency where you must leave the dog unattended for a short duration). Crating a dog should never be used as a punishment or as the primary means of containing your dog. It is intended as a training tool and as a safe space/den. A dog should not be crated beyond it's bladder/bowel capacity (for example, an 8 week old puppy should not be crated any longer than 2-3 hours while awake; he can't hold his bladder that long). Crating is a good tool to have in your "dog kit". The time to NOT crate is when you can dedicate your eyes, ears and nose to your puppy at all times.

Vaccinations: It is required the puppy receive it's full core series (at minimum the 4 core vaccines boosters and Rabies). The basic annual boosters are also required. This is to protect not only your dog but also the dogs it may come in contact with. Dogs can shed viruses and bacteria a variety of ways (pee, poop, skin contact, nasal secretions, mouth/licking, sneezing/coughing, even breathing). It's important to protect your dog so he can protect others. Puppies leave me with their core series started (if cropped they will leave with their first 2 rounds, if not cropped they will leave with their first round). They also receive their Bordetella/Kennel Cough vaccine. After 3 years old you can titer test which vaccines your dog carries immunity for and which ones will need to be repeated. Note; vaccines take between 10-21 days, depending on the vaccine, to develop an immunity in the dog's system. Reducing exposure (public walks, dog parks, pet stores, play dates, etc.) is important in ensuring your dog doesn't contract an illness while in the immunity building phase.

Regarding Claims: A qualifying diagnosis must be confirmed by two separate, unaffiliated veterinarians on two different dates. Holistic and alternative veterinarians will not be accepted. The appropriate health screenings, testing, and protocols must have been followed to ensure an accurate diagnosis. All vet care reimbursements, puppy replacements and refunds are subject to the breeder's discretion. Each claim will be assessed individually, case-by-case.

Raw Feeding Notice: No Jackson's Kennel dog should be fed a raw diet in the duration of the health guarantee unless specifically prescribed by a canine nutritionist for a specific health purpose. Raw feeding diets in any form are an immediate termination of the health guarantee. Raw diets include but are not limited to BARF, BARD, meat only, whole prey, home made, home cooked, premade fresh, premade freeze dried, premade frozen, premade refrigerated, premade dehydrated, prepackaged fresh. prepackaged raw, prepackaged other meat based raw feeding. Raw diets are not regulated by the FDA nor meet the AAFCO nutritional guidelines and testing standards and are not in the best interest of your dog's health, contrary to public misinformation.

The buyer is responsible for paying the full balance including the flight nanny fees 24hrs prior to the scheduled flight date. It is important to note that flight nannies fly stand-by, which means the time and date for your puppy to arrive must be flexible. Dates and/or times may change unexpectedly . Shipping may be more. If so, the price will reflect this additional charge. Shipping may be more. Dogs exported from the US must be a minimum of 6 mths old and have sufficient rabies antibodies.

The price for our flight service includes: hiring the flight nanny (where applicable), flight fee, health certificate and final vet exam ($150), and $50 for my time/gas and airport parking; these prices are nonnegotiable. There are two main airports available; Louisville Muhammad Ali Airport (SDF) in Louisville, KY and Indianapolis INT Airport (IND) in Indianapolis, IN. For an additional gas/travel fee (including the cost of a hotel if applicable) I can meet at another local or close by airport.

Shipping to Rabies-Free Countries and Hawaii

We will gladly ship a dog to a rabies-free country (including Hawaii). For dogs being sent to Hawaii: the dog must be quarantined at the HON holding facility or at an approved holding facility in HI. We will not hold the dog at our home. It is best to go through the process in HI where you can visit your puppy and build a bond with it than leave it with the breeder for 6 months. In most cases, the holding time in HI is significantly shorter (2-3 mths) than the holding time required to send the dog to HI from the mainland US (6 mths). We know this from experience.

Shipping dogs to other rabies free countries is a case by case basis. There will be a daily holding fee of $40 while in quarantine in addition to the flight cost. All fees must be paid in full prior to the dog being shipped. There will be an additional holding/housing fee plus additional fees for vetting, training, cleaning, care and all other incurred expenses before shipping is calculated. The holding fee begins at $3000 and may be more. Shipping international starts at $3000, but may be more. These expenses are in addition to the purchase price of the dog. The price total could look like this, but may be more;
Holding fee: $3000
Shipping fee: $3000
Purchase Price: $4000
Total: $10,000
*this is an example not a valid quote*

Shipping to Crop/Dock Ban Countries

All puppies cropped under our care are done so by our veterinarians and are flown only once their ears have fully healed. It is illegal to import a legally cropped dog into many countries. We will not ship a dog to a country that has banned the importation of cropped/docked dogs. As always, it is best to check with your government laws before purchasing a dog.

International, Alaska and Hawaii shipping starts at $3000usd and all puppies must be at least 6 months old. Shipping may be more. Jackson's Kennel is not responsible for checking your countries import laws. Any additional fees prior to shipping and incurred during transport are the responsibility of the buyer.

All our forms requiring signatures are now electronic!
